Upturn Advisory & Investor View for JHX

09/17/2026: JHX (2-star) is a SELL. SELL for 3 days. Simulated Profits (18.01%). Updated daily EoD!

James Hardie Industries is a leading manufacturer of fiber cement building materials, primarily serving the North American residential siding market. The company benefits from a strong brand and a reputation for durability, which has enabled it to maintain a leading position against traditional wood and vinyl competitors. Its core investment story centers on driving market share gains by converting traditional materials to premium fiber cement. Risks include high cyclicality linked to housing starts, interest rate sensitivity, and competition from alternative building materials. The stock is best suited for investors who understand cyclical sectors, and observers should monitor housing construction data and raw material cost trends for performance indicators.

Upturn Scorecard

Upturn Star Rating

JHX receives a 3-star rating, supported by solid quantitative characteristics, and solid analyst coverage. The rating is constrained by soft unit economics, and weak price momentum.

Company Fundamentals

JHX has moderate overall fundamentals (3 stars), with moderate financial health, soft growth momentum, and solid ownership. In FY2026 versus FY2025, solid revenue growth (+24.7%) is partially offset by negative earnings growth (-75.5%), soft cash generation (FCF margin 4.3%), soft profitability (net margin 2.2%).

Financial Health Rating

JHX's financial health is supported by solid cash strength, including free-cash-flow generation (4.3% of revenue). Profitability is moderate (3 stars), which helps explain the 3-star overall score.

Growth Momentum Score

Revenue growth is JHX's strongest growth driver at +24.7% FY2026 versus FY2025 (solid, 4 stars). By comparison, while earnings growth (-75.5%, negative) and free-cash-flow growth (-45.9%, negative) hold the profile back, so recent growth is not broad-based across the business.

Ownership

Institutional ownership is 50.3% and approximately 94.0% of outstanding shares are publicly tradable, supporting liquidity and institutional participation. Insider ownership is only 0.41%, which materially reduces the ownership score.
